On August 6th the San Diego History Center will be hosting a book talk for the 20th anniversary of Under The Perfect Sun. The book examines the city’s history of militarization, economic inequality, corruption, racial injustice, and political transformation, while highlighting the activists and communities who challenged entrenched power. This updated and expanded anniversary edition revisits San Diego’s evolution from a conservative stronghold to a more progressive city still shaped by ongoing struggles over gentrification, labor, and social justice. On August 26th the San Diego History Center will hold its annual Women’s Equality Day program. As part of the History Center’s America 250 commemoration, this special Women’s Equality Day program will examine how women’s leadership has expanded civic participation, increased access to opportunity, and helped shape a more representative democracy. https://sandiegohistory.org/event/america-at-250-women-and-american-democracy/
